The game developers at Team 17 are at it again with the newest addition to the Worms franchise, Worms W.M.D.
What does the W.M.D stand for anyways? Weapons of Mass Destruction? Worms Must Die? Where’s My Dad? (That last one got a little personal…) Moving on, if you have never had the pleasure of playing any of the previous Worms games, the concept is pretty simple; Players take turns battling their team of adorable little worms against those of their opponents. While this sounds easy enough, a vast array of weapons and gadgets in addition to a landscape that is often unfriendly can turn this simple turn-based game into a competitive and exciting (often hilarious) experience.
I was first introduced to Worms back in college with the release of the Worms: Armageddon. There have been multiple games since then, but none of them have held my interest as much as 2D Armageddon version did. So I was easily drawn to their newest edition Worms W.M.D upon hearing rumors that it would be similar to Armageddon. I was happy to find that the rumors were true. Worms W.M.D is more like Armageddon 2.0. Team 17 has taken all of the best aspects that originally drew me to the game and has slapped on a ton of new features all worthy of causing large scale mayhem.

Many of the classic weapons and utilities are still the same such as the Baseball Bat, the Holy Hand Grenade (a great Monty Python reference), and my personal favorite, the Banana Bomb (All hell breaks loose when someone tosses a banana). Other have been improved upon, such as the Ninja Rope, a rope that can be used to traverse around the landscape in an extremely fun manner. Then there are a ton new additions like the Dodgy Phone Battery, the Demon Strike, and even a Dubstep Gun from the Saint’s Row download. W.M.D introduces the ability to Craft parts. By collecting Crafting Crates along the landscape, the player can use parts to create even more powerful weapons to dominate their opponents. Another new feature includes mounted Turrets and Sniper Rifles that can be used for long range attacks. These powerful weapons can be found along the landscape and can be used by anyone.
With all that said, the best feature that is new to W.M.D might possible be the hehicles. W.M.D has a variety of different vehicles that can be used to obliterate the map and hopefully your enemies. Choppers, Tanks, and even a MechaSuit can are available and each with their own special ability. Taking advantage of the extra protection a vehicle has to offer can be the turning point of the round, making each game even more unpredictable than the last.

The player has the ability to customize local multiplayer matches as well as online. If you are playing alone, quick games with customizable A.I. can still spell out a good time, this is only part of the fun, as W.M.D has a great campaign mode. A downside to this is the waiting time it takes for the A.I to take their turn, which can get annoying pretty quickly. In campaign, the effort you put in is the effort you are going to get out, meaning you can quickly squish your enemies (get it haha they are worms) or you can rack up extra experience points by completing the set goals. The experience points you collect are all used to unlock different rewards that can be used to customize your gaming experience.
Worms W.M.D is a great game and can be family friendly with parental supervision. It makes a great game for parties or even if you are just on your own. You can learn more by checking out their website and can download it directly from Steam.
