For fans of the Assassin’s Creed franchise, the leap of faith is one of the most iconic moves in the game. When it comes to the film, jumping from into a pile of hay hundreds of feet below and miraculously surviving the fall… Surely it has to be done in CGI, right?

Wrong.

20th Century Fox has put out a featurette showcasing that the iconic jump is, in fact, very, very real.

“Justin wants it to be as real as possible,” said producer Frank Marshall. “We’re going to the real world, we’re not relying on visual effects.” This meant enlisting the aid of accomplished Hollywood stuntman Damien Walters to take on a task usually achieved by a digital stunt double. To perform the film’s leap of faith, Walters had to jump a terrifying 125 feet. Check out how it was done below!

As you can see with the video above, Walters took large precautions when preparing for the 125 feet jump by practicing with his first jump at 70 feet, followed by another at 90 feet. Thankfully, he was offered a little more to break his fall than a pile of hay with a large inflatable platform placed below him.

Excited to see the stunt in the film? Impressed by the feat? Sound off in the comments section below!

Through a revolutionary technology that unlocks his genetic memories, Callum Lynch (Michael Fassbender) experiences the adventures of his ancestor, Aguilar, in 15th Century Spain. Callum discovers he is descended from a mysterious secret society, the Assassins, and amasses incredible knowledge and skills to take on the oppressive and powerful Templar organization in the present day.

Assassin’s Creed lands in theaters on December 21st.
