Titanfall 2 open beta coming this weekend

Titanfall 2 Tech Test Screen 2

For those of you looking forward to the Titanfall 2 multiplayer open beta, or “tech test,” get your PlayStation 4 and/or Xbox One ready. It will be opening up to players for the first two weekends starting on Friday, August 19th. Join millions of players as they will get the chance to play, allowing Respawn Entertainment to stress test its systems. However, the bad news is that PC players will be left out.

For the first weekend, two modes and two maps will be available. The weekend after will add a map and mode. There will be two new Titans to test out, Ion and Scorch, with Pilot tacticals including Grapple, Holo Point and Pulse Blade. There will be many weapons to choose from including the Mastiff, a horizontal spread shotgun, and the Alternator, a dual-barrel SMG.

The first beta will run from August 19-21 and the second from August 26-28.

Check out the tech test gameplay trailer below.

The big reasons for Respawn not doing an open beta for the PC are the PC hardware variety and minimum spec optimization. Respawn still needs to make many tweaks and changes and hasn’t pushed the game through the hardware compatibility lab yet. Another reason is that PC players have been known to discover secrets within the game, and the studio is trying to prevent the single player experience from being ruined.

Since the server backend is per platform, it means that they actually only need to test one platform, but has decided to open the test up to both the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.

And here are the details from the different modes and maps:

MODES

Bounty Hunt (5v5): A brand new mode that pits Pilots and their teammates against an opposing team as well as the Remnant Fleet. Earn bonuses by killing grunts and enemies, but make sure and deposit all your points at the bank between waves without getting killed.

Pilots vs. Pilots (8v8): Players can be the best Pilot on the Frontier and put their combat and mobility skills to the ultimate test in this classic 8 vs 8 Pilots only mode.

MAPS

Boomtown: A secret underground IMC facility where the latest in R&D is put to the test. In this facility Pilots can use the many peaked roofs to use as cover against combatants below. With tight lanes through the middle, Titans can also be easily ambushed.

Homestead: The IMC have claimed Imminent Domain on a small commune’s plot of land. With a series of raised, rocky plateaus and a river running down the middle, Pilots are mostly safe from Titans among the rocks and trees but they also can duck into the caves and building when needed. However, the Titans control the large rolling fields.

Additional mode and map for the second weekend.

MODE

Amped Hardpoint (6v6): A new twist on Hardpoint Domination from the original game; now defending a Hardpoint will let you amp it, giving your team double score. Team work is the key to securing victory.

MAP

Forward Base Kodai: Militia forces have taken over an IMC substation and set up a forward operating base. Pilots can find safety from Titans in the hallways and chambers of the main building, while Titans can walk over the roof to get a better view of the action.

Titanfall 2 will be available for the PS4, Xbox One and PC on October 28, 2016.
