This Is Us Season 3 Episode 11 Recap
In the previous episode of NBC’s This Is Us, Kevin discovered that Nicky was still alive and living in Bradford, PA. This Is Us season 3 episode 11 followed the Big Three on a sibling road trip to see him, which mirrored Jack’s visit in 1992.
Secret Weapon
Nicky made friends with the little boy in the fishing ville. He took him on a boat with a box of grenades to use for fishing. Nicky would throw them into the water, and they would collect the dead fish that floated up. The pin on one of the grenades was stuck, and when Nicky fumbled with it, the boy grabbed for it. The pin came off as he dropped it on the floor of the boat. Nicky jumped off the boat, but the boy didn’t make it. Afterwards, Jack gave up on Nicky and put him on a helicopter out of the ville.
Big Ol’ Houses on a Big Ol’ Lake
Jack periodically received postcards from Nicky at his job. When the last one came to his house, Jack went to visit him. He had told Rebecca and the kids that he was working. Jack told Nicky he couldn’t send things to his house, but showed him a picture of his family. When Nicky began to explain what had happened with the boy, Jack shut it down because he didn’t want to re-live it. When Jack left, he stopped at a store. He considered going back to his brother’s trailer, but went home instead.
Correcting Mistakes
Kevin persuaded Randall and, eventually, Kate to drive with him to Bradford to meet their Uncle Nicky. When they arrived at the trailer, there was no one home, but Nicky showed up just as they were about to give up. They told Nicky that Jack had died from smoke inhalation. Nicky told them what had happened with the boy.
As it got later, he asked the Big Three to leave since it was so overwhelming. They stopped at the same store that Jack did. But, Kevin remembered advice from Jack about wanting to correct his father’s mistakes. Kevin insisted on going back to Nicky’s. He didn’t answer their knock, but the door was open. They found him sitting with a gun. He regretted that he never got to tell Jack that it was an accident.
Ask Him More
Rebecca declined the opportunity to go on the trip. Instead, she and Miguel would be watching Randall’s daughters. The girls asked if they would bring Nicky home with them. They remembered how Randall brought William home. The experience was Randall’s reason for going, since he knew how bad it would be for Kevin if they didn’t find Nicky.
When the girls went to bed, Rebecca asked Miguel if she could’ve done more to talk to Jack. Miguel reassured her, since he hadn’t known either, and they were best friends. Rebecca resolved to find out the truth this time.
