The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel Season 2 Episode 3 Recap
In the previous episode of Amazon’s The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, Midge’s parents came home, and Joel resolved to help his father’s business. The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel season 2 episode 3 began with Abe, Rose, and Midge getting ready for a busy day.
No Societal Filter
At B. Altman, Mrs. O’Toole sternly brought Midge upstairs from the phone operators’ room. Midge would be manning coat check with the strict rule that she could not leave the booth. Her makeup counter friends came to talk with her. Mary was planning her wedding herself, and Midge couldn’t have that. She met Mary at the church to negotiate a better room for the reception, reusing flowers from a funeral, and getting better appetizers.
At the wedding, Midge got a heartfelt thank you from the bride. However, Midge slipped into an impromptu stand-up routine where she made inappropriate jokes and accidentally revealed that it was a shotgun wedding. The next day at B. Altman, Midge left the booth to apologize to Mary and was relegated back to being an operator.
Mrs. X at the Gaslight
On top of trying to avoid Harry Drake, Susie was struggling financially. She had an Italian family living in her apartment. She tried to persuade Midge to hit on Billy Jay, a booker at a club that Harry Drake talked to at the deli. Susie was getting desperate. She went to the record store to sell some of her rare records. Susie came across a recording of Midge’s routine.
All in Agreement
Rose was auditing a women’s figure drawing graduate class. Their model was a nude man, which had her flustered. Abe continued lecturing as he walked to meet her at her class, and he saw the nude man too.
While sitting with the ladies in the class as they shared their drawings, Rose asked them for what they would use their Master’s degrees in Art. They thought they would teach, but Rose pointed out that none of the art professors were women. She suggested transferring to the business school since there were more handsome men there. Simon, the dean, called Abe to his office to tell him Rose could no longer audit the art classes. Abe told him that despite how much he didn’t like that she saw a naked man in her classes, it was better than the alternative. He brought Rose in to explain herself, and soon, they wore him down on his stance.
Treasure Maps
Joel met with Archie’s brother, Curren, at a bank for a line of credit. Shirley kept bringing up “treasure maps” she had of places she stashed thousands of dollars in cash. Curren declined their line of credit, but Archie got him to change his mind. On his visit, Archie insisted that Joel needed to get out of his parents’ place.
The Maisels had hidden $2,000 in Midge’s parents’ front closet. She met Joel at the factory to return the money. Midge helped Joel locate a stash deep in the building. Then Joel realized he could use the space as his new apartment.
