Talks of a 30 Rock reboot have definitely occurred, Jane Krakowski says
Jane Krakowski, the 49-year-old star of the hit NBC sitcom 30 Rock, confirmed to The Hollywood Reporter that talks of reuniting the cast for a revival have “definitely” happened at the network.
The satirical series, created by and starring Tina Fey and based on her experiences as a head writer on Saturday Night Live, follows the behind-the-scenes antics of a fictional live sketch comedy series airing on NBC. It earned rave reviews from audiences and critics in its seven-season run, winning numerous Emmys, including three consecutive Outstanding Comedy Series wins, and its series finale earned widespread acclaim and has been called one of the best in television history.
Krakowski, who says the cast describe working on the show as “the best experience we’re ever going to have in our careers, as far as creativity goes,” would really like to see where her character, attention-seeking Jenna Maroney, has landed in the years since the finale.
The reboot craze has been sweeping across broadcast television over the past couple of years, with shows like Twin Peaks and Samurai Jack continuing their legacies for their cult fan bases, while shows like Will & Grace and Roseanne have reconnected with both new and old audiences. NBC Entertainment’s chairman Bob Greenblatt has considered the reboot following the success of the Will & Grace reboot, which has earned a two-season renewal bringing its revival total up to three seasons and its total run up to 11 seasons.
Greenblatt has also hinted at other reboots of hit NBC series in the works, including fan-favorite The Office and The West Wing, chalking up the challenge of the reboots partly to the cast members’ contracts, in which they want more money than the network can afford.
Until NBC gives the reboot a greenlight or an axe, Krakowski and Fey can be seen in the Neflix original Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, on which the latter is also a co-creator for the series and will debut the fourth season May 30.
