Coco wins third-straight weekend, Justice League passes $600M

For the third weekend in a row, Disney•Pixar‘s Coco topped the domestic box office with $18.3 million to bring its North American total to $135.5 million. Internationally, the film added another $55.3 million this weekend and has now reached $254 million, with $128 million coming from China and $56.6 million from Mexico. The global total for Coco is now $390 million. Directed by Lee Unkrich and co-directed by Adrian Molina, Coco features the voices of Anthony Gonzalez, Benjamin Bratt, Gael Garcia Bernal, Edward James Olmos, Alanna Ubach, and more.

Warner Bros. Pictures‘ Justice League remained in the second spot with $9.6 million and has grossed $212 million after four weeks. The film added $15.4 million internationally to push its overseas total to $401.3 million, with $103.1 million coming from China alone. Combined with the domestic total, the global earnings for the film are now $613.4 million. Comparing the movie to previous DC Comics films, Man of Steel grossed $668 million worldwide, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice took in $873.3 million, Suicide Squad earned $745.6 million, and Wonder Woman brought in $821.8 million. Directed by Zack Snyder, Justice League stars Ben Affleck, Henry Cavill, Amy Adams, Gal Gadot, Ezra Miller, Jason Momoa, Ray Fisher, Jeremy Irons, Diane Lane, Connie Nielsen, and J.K. Simmons.

In third place a third week, Lionsgate’s Wonder added $8.5 million this weekend to take its domestic total to $100.3 million. Overseas, Wonder grossed $11.4 million this weekend and has now earned $29.3 million, putting the worldwide total at $129.6 million. Directed by Stephen Chbosky, Wonder stars Julia Roberts, Owen Wilson, Jacob Tremblay, Daveed Diggs, and Noah Jupe.

Also keeping its fourth spot was Marvel Studios’ Thor: Ragnarok, which grossed $6.3 million domestically and $3.1 million internationally this weekend. The film has now earned $301.2 million in North America and $532 million overseas, for a global total of $833.2 million. The first Thor earned $449.3 million worldwide and Thor: The Dark World took in $644.5 million globally. Made for $180 million, the Taika Waititi-directed Thor: Ragnarok stars Chris Hemsworth, Tom Hiddleston, Cate Blanchett, Idris Elba, Jeff Goldblum, Tessa Thompson, Karl Urban, Mark Ruffalo, and Anthony Hopkins.

James Franco’s The Disaster Artist (A24) increased its theater count to 840 and climbed to the fifth spot with $6.4 million this weekend. The film generated an estimated $1 million on 587 screens in three overseas markets this weekend as well. Directed by and starring James Franco, the film co-stars Dave Franco and Seth Rogen.

Sixth place belonged to Paramount Pictures’ Daddy’s Home 2, directed by Sean Anders and starring Will Ferrell, Mark Wahlberg, John Lithgow, and Mel Gibson. The sequel, produced for $69 million, earned $6 million and has earned $91.2 million domestically after five weeks. Internationally, the comedy added $11.6 million this weekend in 59 markets and has now grossed $51.2 million, for a global total of $142.4 million. In 2015, the first Daddy’s Home earned $150 million domestically and $92.4 million internationally, for a worldwide total of $242.8 million.

20th Century Fox’s Murder on the Orient Express added $5.1 million domestically and has made $92.7 million after five weeks. Made for $55 million and directed by Kenneth Branagh, the adaptation of Agatha Christie’s novel features a large ensemble cast that includes Branagh, Johnny Depp, Michelle Pfeiffer, Daisy Ridley, Michael Pena, Judi Dench, Leslie Odom Jr., Tom Bateman, Lucy Boynton, Sir Derek Jacobi, Josh Gad, Penelope Cruz, Sergei Polunin, and Willem Dafoe.

Also, Guillermo del Toro’s The Shape of Water (Fox Searchlight Pictures) expanded to 41 theaters, where the film grossed $1.1 million, or $26,829 per theater. The Shape of Water stars Sally Hawkins, Michael Shannon, Richard Jenkins, Doug Jones, Michael Stuhlbarg, and Octavia Spencer.
