Watch the final Blade Runner 2049 prequel short from the director of Cowboy Bebop

Blade Runner 2049: Black Out 2022 Short Film

“Cowboy Bebop” is widely regarded as one of the best anime series ever made. It’s a series full of intriguing storylines and amazing characters. In other words, “Cowboy Bebop” is the epitome of the word: cool.

Watching “Cowboy Bebop” and you’ll recognize some of the influence Blade Runner had on Shinichirō Watanabe. It’s only fitting that Watanabe was brought in to direct the final Blade Runner 2049 prequel short: Black Out 2022. After all, an iconic anime director like Watanabe adding to the legacy of one of the most influential sci-fi films of all time is a win for everyone.

The first and second short all allude to the blackout event in Watanabe’s short. Hence this singular event caused a rise in anti-Replicant sentiment among the people. Thus leading to the complete prohibition of Replicant creation. This is the law that Niander Wallace was trying to appeal in “2036: Nexus Dawn”. You can check out a preview of the short film below.

Judging by the preview, it looks as if the final prequel short will delve into the history of the Ana de Armas’ character, Joi. However, if you want to check out the full version then you’ll have to sign up for Crunchyroll.

So what do you think of the shorts, overall? Sound off with your thoughts in the comments section below!
