Blader Runner 2049 gets their own Johnnie Walker variant

If you remember 1982’s Blade Runner, you’d remember Rick Deckard (Harrison Ford) was always drinking Johnnie Walker whisky. The new sequel to the beloved film Blade Runner 2049 is no different in their taste of liquor.

Blade Runner 2049 has teamed up with whisky company, Johnnie Walker, to create a one of a kind Black Label: Johnnie Walker Black Label The Director’s Cut. Created by Diageo Master Blender Jim Beveridge in collaboration with director Denis Villeneuve, Blade Runner 2049 has an official drink and in the exact shape as the iconic prop from the original film.

Just why is it called the Director’s Cut? It pays a great homage to the 1992 release of the film called: The Director’s Cut.

“Like many fans, I remember the Johnnie Walker bottle from the first film, so it was a unique privilege to collaborate with Johnnie Walker on designing a totally original, custom bottle for the new movie,” said Villeneuve in a press statement.

In the same statement, Beveridge added, “What we have created in Johnnie Walker Black Label The Director’s Cut is something really special that fans will be able to relate to and whisky drinkers will love. I was truly inspired by Villeneuve’s artistic vision for Blade Runner 2049 and how it could come to life in this new blend. I learned that filmmaking is much like blending—you have to constantly be committed to creating the best possible outcome. Johnnie Walker blending tradition dates back to 1820 and I’m honored to carry on the legacy and collective memory of our other past blenders to ensure that the same whisky enjoyed today can be enjoyed responsibly in 2049.”

With more than 30 malt and grain whiskies from the best distilleries in the world in its DNA, Johnnie Walker Black Label remained the blueprint for this new blend. It has 49% ABV both for added intensity and is a nod to Blade Runner 2049. The taste is a classic Johnnie Walker Black Label style, but added a dark, rich, smooth blend, with clouds of smokiness and a touch of femininity. It’s available in the US for $90/750mL and is limited to 39,000 bottles available in 15 selected cities around the world.
