JC here, back to catch you up on another way you can play ARMS. That’s right—it’s time to talk button controls.
For the first few months that I worked on ARMS, I played exclusively with motion controls. It was only once I was confident that I had a complete grasp of all their nuances that I gave my literal arms a break and kicked back to try out the game’s button-based control schemes. On that front, every input option launched with Nintendo Switch works, from a single Joy-Con controller to a pair of Joy-Con in a grip to yes, even the Nintendo Switch Pro Controller.
Part 3: In the End, There’s No Wrong Answer
Looking back at all the time I’ve spent in ARMS, it’s been a fascinating learning experience—and, truth be told, I’ve come out the other side actually enjoying both motion and button controls a lot. I still use both here at the office and, interestingly, what often determines which one I want to use is actually which character I feel like playing. And this brings me to my final point:
Whether you’re firing off punches via motion or button controls, know that there’s no “right” choice—what’s best is ultimately what feels best to you.
