Showrunner Adi Shankar (Power/Rangers short) has been working on a Castlevania series for Netflix with animation studio Frederator (Adventure Time). It was announced this month that the first season would premiere in 2017. Shankar released this week the Castlevania poster via his Facebook. It features a very dark and gloomy castle belonging to Dracula, which is the right tone for the franchise.
So what can fans and viewers expect from the series?
“It is R-rated as f***,” Shankar tells Nerd Reactor about how mature the series is going to be. “This is like Judge Dredd level art. If you like Dredd, you’re going to love this. Tonally it’s very similar.”
Warren Ellis, who has worked on many Marvel comic bookss including the Iron Man’s “Extremis” story arc, is writing the Castlevania series.
The Castlevania video game series follows the Belmont clan on the hunt for vampires. The recent Castlevania: Lords of Shadow series follows the tale of a vampire hunter becoming Dracula.
