Axe Murder Boyz- Fatality EP

After what seems like an eternity I am back to rekindle the album review section!  I know this release is older but I had the review locked and loaded and figured it was a good starting point.  That being said if you have an album you would like reviewed please send it to myself or Scottie D and I will see what I can do.  Now on to the review!

It has been 2 years since AMB released any music after their debut on Majik Ninja Entertainment with their album, Muerte. AMB is back in 2020 with a short EP titled Fatality. Since their beginnings in Denver CO AMB has never compromised their creative integrity. They have had a tumultuous career but have always made solid albums and put on amazing live performances. They really caught the underground music scenes attention when they ultimately signed to Psychopathic Records. From 2005-2016 they drifted in and out of the label before ultimately landing a contract with Majik Ninja Entertainment. Having only released one full length album on the label thus far many are asking how will Fatality stack up against previous releases.

Track listing

  1. Intro
  2. Fatality
  3. Cantfuckwittus Ft Jaime Madrox
  4. Nothin 4 Free
  5. Murda Shit
  6. Runnitup
  7. And We Up

Track list and ratings

  1. Intro– 34 second intro. Basic intro. NR
  2. Fatality– This track goes super hard. The beat has that deep thumping bass and instantly has the listener bobbing their head. Young Wicked leads off and destroys the verse. The hook is super simple but a good break after the fast paced verses. Bonez Dubb adds a solid verse to finish off the track. A great first track to this EP. 4.5/5
  3. Cantfuckwittus Ft Jaime Madrox– This is a much slower paced track compared to Fatality. The style sounds a lot more modern in structure. The verses flow with a busy beat. Jaime Madrox slows his usually faster flow and fits more of the modern style of rhyming. The hook is another simple one but it flows well in the track. Another decent track on this short EP. 4/5
  4. Nothin 4 Free– Very stripped down and simple beat here. The first verse will remind the listener a of 6ix9ine or Lil Pump. Both verses are again very solid. The simple hook trend continues but that allows the track to flow well. 3.5/5
  5. Murda Shit– Deep bass and driving pace drive the beat here. The verses are fast and done exceptionally well. The hook is simple and the beat is super busy which makes it hard to get into the track entirely. 3.5/5
  6. Runnitup– This track is very reminiscent of early AMB. Solid beat, well-structured verses, and a simple but effective hook. A good track as a throwback style for them. 4/5
  7. And We Up– Hype beat pops this track off. The verses fit a more modern style the way they flow with the beat. The hook is the most complex on the album. YW shows off his rhyme abilities and Bonez proves he can hold his own with anyone on MNE. 4/5

Overall Rating: 3.9/5

Conclusion:  Fatality is a short 17 min EP that should provide a great gap fill between Muerte and the next full length album. The album seems a lot longer than 17 min though. Bonez and Young Wicked continue to show the drive and determination that has led them to be one of the most successful underground duos in the game. They seem to have overcome some serious personal issues without losing much steam. I look forward to future releases and if you haven’t given this EP a listen go check it out, it is very worth the 17 min you will invest.
