Stumptown cancelled at ABC following Season 2 renewal

After Stumptown secured a second season renewal last May, Deadline brings word that ABC has decided to reverse their decision by officially cancelling the Cobie Smulders-led action drama after one season. According to the outlet’s sources, the decision was made due to scheduling conflicts related to the production start which were caused by the ongoing pandemic. Stumptown’s studio ABC Signature is reportedly planning to shop the series to other networks or streamers.

The series isn’t actually the only casualty to cancelled renewals with Netflix recently cancelling two well-received coming-of-age shows The Society and I Am Not Okay With This due to pandemic-related production issues.

Based on the graphic novel series of the same name written by Greg Rucka and illustrated by Matthew Southworth, Stumptown will follow the story of Dex Parios, a strong, assertive, and sharp-witted army veteran with a complicated love life, gambling debt, and a brother to take care of in Portland, Oregon. Her military intelligence skills make her a great P.I., but her unapologetic style puts her in the firing line of hardcore criminals and not quite in alliance with the police.

The series will star Smulders (How I Met Your Mother) as Dex Parios, Jake Johnson (New Girl) as Grey McConnell, Michael Ealy (Being Mary Jane) as Detective Miles Hoffman, Tantoo Cardinal (Blackstone, Outlander) as Sue Lynn Blackbird, Cole Sibus as Ansel Parios, and Adrian Martinex (The Secret Life of Walter Mitty) as Tookie, along with Emmy Award-winning actress Camryn Manheim (The Practice, Person of Interest) as Lieutenant Cosgrove.

The series is created by Jason Richman who will also serve as an executive producer along with Ruben Fleischer (Venom), Dave Bernad, Greg Rucka, Matthew Southworth and Justin Greenwood.
