Pretty Little Liars reboot in development from Riverdale creator
It has been three years since Freeform’s Pretty Little Liars concluded its seven-season run in 2017, and now The Hollywood Reporter brings word that Riverdale creator Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa is in the process of developing a reboot of the popular teen mystery drama. This news also comes after nearly a year since its spinoff series The Perfectionist was cancelled after one season.

According to the outlet’s sources, Aguirre-Sacasa will be writing the reboot’s script and is looking to give a new take on the hit teen drama with a new story and new characters expected to be featured in the reboot. The project hasn’t been presented to potential buyers yet but it is possible that HBO Max is being considered as the potential home for the new series.
The Pretty Little Liars reboot will be executive produced by Aguirre-Sacasa and Alloy Entertainment’s Leslie Morgenstein and Gina Girolamo.

Based on Sara Shepard’s novel series of the same name, Pretty Little Liars centered around four friends Spencer, Aria, Hanna, and Emily as they grapple with the consequences of their friend and group leader Alison DiLaurentis’ mysterious disappearance. However, a year later, they found out that Alison had died when her body was unexpectedly recovered from her house. From then on, each of them start receiving messages from an unknown figure called “A” who is constantly threatening them with their secrets.

Created by I. Marlene King, the original series ran on-air for seven seasons from 2010 to 2017. It starred Troian Bellisario, Lucy Hale, Ashley Benson, Shay Mitchell, Sasha Pieterse, and Janel Parrish.
