New Black-ish spinoff in development with Laurence Fishburne & Jenifer Lewis to star
After producing two successful spinoffs Grown-ish and Mix-ish, The Hollywood Reporter brings word that ABC is in the process of developing another Black-ish spinoff series titled Old-ish which will now center on the parents of Anthony Anderson’s Dre Johnson, Earl and Ruby Johnson, who are being played by Oscar nominee Laurence Fishburne and Jenifer Lewis (Strong Medicine).
Fishburne is currently a recurring character at the main series while Lewis has been a series regular since the second season. Should the new spinoff receive a series order, this would mark the 59-year-old actor’s first major TV project as the central character after playing many supporting roles in shows such as CSI: Crime Scene Investigation and Hannibal.

Old-ish will follow Ruby and Earl as they give love a second chance. When they move to a rapidly gentrifying neighborhood of L.A., they’ll meet characters who represent the old and new faces of the community as they try to make it work as a married couple. Again.
The third Black-ish spinoff will be written by Kenya Barris, who will also serve as an executive producer through his Khalabo Ink Society banner. It will also be executive produced by Fishburne, Anthony Anderson, and Artists First’s E. Brian Dobbins with Lewis set as a producer. This project is a co-production by ABC Signature, Cinema Gypsy and Khalabo Ink Society.

Since its debut, the series continues to garner critical acclaim and has also received numerous nods from award-giving bodies including a Peabody Award in 2015, 19 Emmy nominations, and 5 Golden Globe nominations with Tracee Ellis Ross winning a Golden Globe for Best Actress.
