Mike Tyson Mysteries cancelled by Adult Swim after four seasons

After this past week brought the sad news that the network was bringing The Venture Bros. to an end, it’s been revealed that Adult Swim has also decided to cancel the acclaimed animated comedy Mike Tyson Mysteries after four seasons. (Via ComicBook.com)

While appearing on The Modern Moron Podcast, staff writer Larry Dorf confirmed that the decision to cancel the series actually came closer to the start of the year while also revealing that he, Davidson and some other talent from Mysteries have pitched a new series to Warner Bros. Animation.

Well, I was a writer for Mike Tyson Mysteries,” Dorf said during the podcast. “Mike Tyson Mysteries is not a show anymore. It’s been canceled. … It was very fun. It was a funny show, but it’s all done.

Created by Tyson, Hugh Davidson and Lee Stimmel and developed by Davidson and Giancarlo Volpe, the series centers on the titular boxer/actor as he teams with the ghost of the Marquess of Queensberry, his fictional adopted daughter Yung Hee and an alcoholic man turned into a pigeon to solve mysteries around the world in a satiric mix of Hanna-Barbera productions as well as Ruby-Spears’ Mister T, though most episodes ignore their central mystery or leave them on major cliffhangers never resolved.

In addition to Tyson, the main cast for the series includes Jim Rash (Community) as the deceased father of modern boxing, Rachel Ramras (Nobodies) as Yung Hee as well as staff writer on every episode of the series and Norm Macdonald (The Orville) as the foul-mouthed and uninhibited Richard, almost exclusively referred to as Pigeon, while recurring stars include Chuck Deezy (How High), Davidson, Cheryl Hines (Curb Your Enthusiasm), Rhys Darby (Jumanji: The Next Level) and Rachael Harris (Lucifer).
