Co-written by Borte and Daniel Forte, who he previously worked with on the mystery thriller H8RZ and crime drama American Dreamer, will center on a group of university students as they backpack through the infamous titular German forest, only to encounter phenomena that transports them back to The Middle Ages and find themselves separated and on the run from local villagers on a witch hunt.

This is a wonderful chance to sink my teeth into the contemporary horror genre,” Borte said in a statement.

The film is set to be produced by Sofia Sondervan-Bild of Dutch Tilt Film and Scott F. Lochmus of Storyland Pictures alongside James Gibb of Balkanic Media, while Ellen Wander and Jordan Dykstra of LA-based Film Bridge International are attached to executive produce and handle worldwide sales of the project.

Black Forest is a clever, contemporary thriller like nothing we’ve seen before,” Wander said in a statement. “Undoubtedly, we’re delighted to have the opportunity to work with a filmmaker like Borte.
