WarnerMedia CFO warns that more 2020 films may still get delayed
After Christopher Nolan’s Tenet had suffered another date change, WarnerMedia CFO John Stephens has also addressed the future of Warner Bros. Pictures’ other high-profile films. In a recent call with investors (via The Hollywood Reporter), Stephens admitted that the company is still uncertain if Patty Jenkins’ Wonder Woman 1984 and Denis Villeneuve’s Dune could make their respective October and December releases as they anticipate more potential delays down the line.
“I am not certain where those [films] are going to go,” Stephens said. “…further delays in some of the titles [could still happen].” Because the pandemic is “forcing us to look at new ways to distribute content.”
His statement comes after WarnerMedia have recently conducted mass layoffs throughout the entire company which had greatly affected its subsidiaries including DC Universe and DC Comics.

Fast forward to the 1980s as Wonder Woman’s next big-screen adventure finds her facing an all-new foe: The Cheetah. As previously announced, the film stars Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman and Kristen Wiig in the role of the Super-Villain The Cheetah, as well as Pedro Pascal. Chris Pine also returns as Steve Trevor.
Originally set to open in theaters on December 13, 2019, Wonder Woman 1984, which is based on the character created by William Moulton Marston, appearing in comic books published by DC Entertainment, was moved up to November 1 before being delayed to June 5 and a fourth time to August 14 before its current date of October 2. It will be distributed worldwide by Warner Bros. Pictures, a Warner Bros. Entertainment Company.

The star-studded cast includes Timothée Chalamet (Call Me By Your Name), Rebecca Ferguson (Mission: Impossible — Fallout) and Oscar Isaac (Star Wars: The Last Jedi) in leading roles. The film will also feature Zendaya (Spider-Man: Far From Home) Jason Momoa (Aquaman), Dave Bautista (Guardians of the Galaxy), Javier Bardem (No Country For Old Men), Stellan Skarsgard (Thor: The Dark World), Charlotte Rampling (The Night Porter) and Josh Brolin (Avengers: Endgame).

Villeneuve is best known for directing Blade Runner 2049 as well as Sicario. Though Dune will likely resemble the former film more than the latter, both display the sort of experience directing arid, desolate locales that a fan would want in their Dune director, considering a sizable chunk of the story takes place on a desert planet.
Dune is currently set to be released in theaters on December 18, 2020.
