Sony’s Cinderella film & For All Mankind Season 2 resume filming

After more than five months since all TV and film productions were forced to shut down due to the ongoing pandemic, Deadline now brings word that Sony Pictures has greenlit the resumption of production to their two major projects including the forthcoming Cinderella film and the upcoming second season of For All Mankind.

The Camila Cabello-led musical remake is scheduled to restart their filming in the UK this week and is expected to conclude by the end of September. It is still currently on track for its February 5, 2021 release. Meanwhile, cameras have already started rolling today for the Joel-Kinnaman-led Apple TV+ space race series with only two episodes left to shoot before production officially wraps on Season 2 of the Sony Pictures TV-produced For All Mankind.

The musical film remake of Cinderella is said to be a modern re-imagining of the classic fairytale of the orphaned girl with an evil step-mother featuring a musical bent. Kay Cannon, who wrote the Pitch Perfect comedies, earned three Emmy nominations for NBC’s 30 Rock and directed last year’s comedy Blockers, will direct and write the film.

Joining Camila Cabello in her film acting debut as the titular princess are Emmy winner Billy Porter and Tony winner and Frozen star Idina Menzel, who is portraying the roles of fairy godmother and evil stepmother, respectively. The film will also feature Nicholas Galitzine (The Beat Beneath My Feet) as Prince Robert and Pierce Brosnan as the King along with Maddie Baillio and Charlott Spencer. Emmy-winning comedic actors James Corden (Peter Rabbit) and John Mulaney (Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse) along with Romesh Ranganathan (The Reluctant Landlord) have also joined the cast as the mice-turned-footmen sidekicks of the titular character.

From Golden Globe nominee and Emmy Award winner, Ronald D. Moore (Outlander, Star Trek, Battlestar Galactica), For All Mankind explores what would have happened if the global space race never ended. The drama presents an aspirational world where NASA astronauts, engineers, and their families find themselves in the center of extraordinary events seen through the prism of an alternate history timeline — a world in which the USSR beats the US to the moon.

The series stars Joel Kinnaman, Michael Dorman, Sarah Jones, Shantel VanSanten, Wrenn Schmidt, Jodi Balfour. For All Mankind is created by Ronald D. Moore, Matt Wolpert, and Ben Nedivi, and directed by Seth Gordon.
