He asked her to close her eyes first, but she didn’t and blamed herself for what happened to the others. Slava appeared to Dorothy, but this time Niles could see her. Niles wanted Dorothy to say no to her, but Dorothy took the boots from Slava, signaling her growing up. She refused Slava’s weapon and conjured her own. The Candlemaker appeared, and Dorothy confronted him. However, he grabbed her, and they disappeared.

Keeping Kay Safe

Doom Patrol Season 2 Episode 9 Recap

In the 60s, Miranda worked at a diner where a man named John played guitar and sang outside like Bob Dylan. He asked her out and gave her a necklace bought with the nickels she would give him. Miranda shyly accepted. After a jump forward, Miranda was comfortable with John as they moved in together. He was now a company man, and Miranda talked about his friends coming over for a housewarming party.

Without Miranda’s knowledge, John had planned a sex party. He gaslit her by claiming they were in a rut and pressured her to join in. While having sex with John’s work friend, Bob, Miranda saw Kay’s father. She collapsed as Miranda went into the Underground, and the Alters confronted her. She had failed to protect Kay. When she awoke, she was Jane. Jane yelled at the partygoers and left John, naked. In the Underground, holding the necklace he gave her, Miranda threw herself into the well.

We saw Jane in the present, swimming toward a light in the well. It was the pendant of the necklace John had given Miranda. It was still in Miranda’s dead hand. At Jane’s closed station, Kay realized that the Miranda Alter wasn’t the real Miranda.
