Venom 2 producer unsure about when they could finish reshoots

Before all film productions were temporarily shutdown due to the ongoing global pandemic, Sony Pictures’ upcoming sequel Venom: Let There Be Carnage were one of the lucky high-profile projects to be able to finished filming. However, despite wrapping up production, the studio had still decided to pushed back the release date of the Tom Hardy-led film to 2021.

In recent interview with Vanity Fair, producer Dan Wilson has finally confirmed the current status of movie, revealing that director Andy Serkis is remotely working on the post-production. He also revealed that they’re still very unsure about the date of when they could begin with the film’s reshoots which are an inevitable process especially with most high-scale productions like Venom 2.

“Nobody wants to go into an environment that’s going to be risky and that goes for crew members too. It’s not just talent. It’s everybody involved on set,” Wilson said. There’s a nervousness and that’s natural and understandable. In the plans that we’ve discussed, they’ve certainly taken that into account and we’ll see when we get there, I guess.”

Andy Serkis will direct Venom 2, marking his first foray in directing a comic book feature after appearing in two Marvel Studios movies. Venom: Let There Be Carnage will mark the third feature film Serkis will tackle as director following Mowgli: Legend of the Jungle, which was released on Netflix last year.

Tom Hardy will reprise his role as Eddie Brock in the film alongside Michelle Williams as Anne Weying. Cletus Kasady, aka Carnage, was briefly introduced into the Venom movie franchise during the original film’s mid-credits scene that revealed Woody Harrelson as Venom’s archenemy. It was recently confirmed that Harrelson would be returning for the Venom sequel. Oscar nominee Naomie Harris (Moonlight) was also reportedly in talks to play the role of villain Shriek, who is Carnage’s love interest and accomplice.

Originally set to debut on October 2, 2020, the sequel is now scheduled to hit the theaters on June 25, 2021
