Check Out the Full List of 2020 Eisner Award Nominees

San Diego Comic-Con 2020 was called off in light of the coronavirus pandemic, and that left the Eisner Awards without a venue. Comic-Con has served as the home of the comic book industry’s Oscar-equivalent since 1991. But even though that won’t be the case this year, the show must go on. Via The Hollywood Reporter, the Eisner committee has announced the list of nominees for 2020.

As expected, plenty of new and continuing Marvel and DC books are getting some love at this year’s awards. Marvel’s relaunched Daredevil title, written by Chip Zdarsky and illustrated by Marco Checchetto, earned a nod for Best Continuing Series. It will compete against Immortal Hulk, which was nominated for the same category last year. Also nominated for Best Continuing Series is The Dreaming, which is part of DC’s Sandman Universe. Additionally, Zdarsky received a Best Writer nod for his work on Daredevil, Spider-Man: Life Story, Image’s White Trees, and comiXology’s Afterlift.

DC’s Harley Quinn: Breaking Glass also earned three nominations for Best Writer (Mariko Tamaki), Best Penciller/Inker (Steve Pugh), and Best Publication for Teens. However, neither of the big two publishers could edge out their competition in the indie realm. IDW leads this year’s crop of nominees with 13 nods for titles like Ghost Tree and Diabolical Summer. Image follows at a close second with 11 nominations for Bitter Root, Criminal, Ascender, and more.
