Michael Bay Giving Mark Greaney Audio Novel Armored the Big Screen Treatment

Michael Bay is not letting the coronavirus slow him down. Recently we reported the Transformers director would produce a pandemic thriller in the vein of Paranormal Activity. Now Deadline reports that Bay will team with Erwin Stoff to produce a big-screen adaptation of Mark Greaney’s yet-to-be-published audio novel Armored.

Bay will produce the pic through his new deal at Sony along with Erwin Stuff of 3 Arts.

Greaney is known for the Gray Man series, as well as his work as co-author of Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan novels. (Bonus points if you remembered that Bay currently serves as producer on Amazon’s Jack Ryan series.) Armored will be released through Audible in late 2020 and published as a traditional novel later.

Here’s the synopsis, per Deadline: “The novel focuses on a high-risk security contractor who suffers from old wounds– both physical and mental– and reluctantly takes a job working on a heavily armed convoy shuttling UN delegates through Mexico’s “cartel country.” High on the “Devil’s Spine” of the Sierra Madre, the mission turns into a desperate struggle for survival as corrupt police, rival gangs and an enemy within all try to destroy the tiny motorcade before the peace talks bear fruit.”

The trade notes that the film may stray from Mexico and the cartels, though that nothing is clear yet.

Bay recently directed the action flick 6 Underground with Ryan Reynolds, which is currently available to stream on Netflix.
