Dave Filoni Clarifies George Lucas’ Involvement in The Clone Wars

In a recent article with Entertainment Weekly, Star Wars: The Clone Wars show runner Dave Filoni explained George Lucas’ role in the final season after recent outlets suggested he was heavily involved in the production.

“That’s largely been taken out of context in people’s enthusiasm,” he explained. George and I still talk, and I’ll ask him some things. But he’s just really enjoying watching them. What’s in play are things we had discussed years ago. The Bad Batch were series of stories we had written in story meetings with him, and the Trace and Rafa arc were adapted off of outlines from them.”

“These last four episodes were probably the least developed of what we had done,”Filoni continued. “There are elements that were always the same. He hadn’t really seen anything until you’re releasing it here. I respect him so much, and having worked with him, I just always want make sure I’m getting it right. So I check in with him time to time.”

“If I’ve had success, it’s really because he was teaching us and took the time to teach us. He was teaching what he thought made this work and what didn’t. One little mistake can ruin a lot of things. So hopefully I got it more right than not.”

The main takeaway here is to watch The Clone Wars regardless of who put it together, because it’s awesome.

Created by George Lucas, the show first aired in 2008 and became an entry point into Star Wars for an entire generation, following fan-favorites like Anakin Skywalker, Obi-Wan Kenobi, and Padmé Amidala, while introducing major new characters like Jedi Padawan Ahsoka Tano and Captain Rex. It became a multi-Emmy winner and is now regarded as essential Star Wars.

Even though The Clone Wars will be having its epic conclusion this year, it appears it won’t be the end for the animated Star Wars universe as SWNN has also revealed that a sequel series to Rebels is currently in development to pick up the story of Ahsoka from the series finale and could premiere as early as this year.

Star Wars: The Clone Wars is currently airing weekly on Disney+.
