Chris Pratt & Elizabeth Banks reprise Lego Movie roles for new PSA

As a way to combat the further spreading of COVID-19, a brand new PSA has been released, featuring the voices of Chris Pratt and Elizabeth Banks as they reprise their roles as Emmett and Lucy from Warner Bros. The Lego Movie to educate and remind children about the safety tips that they need to do during this ongoing pandemic. Last month, it was finally confirmed that Universal Pictures has officially acquired a five-year exclusive film rights deal for the LEGO brand from Warner Bros. Pictures, who have produced the original LEGO films including The Lego Movie, The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part, The Lego Batman Movie and The Lego Ninjago Movie which earned a combined gross of $1.1 billion globally.

LEGO Group’s Wilfert will serve as producer on all LEGO projects developed and released by Universal. Rideback’s Dan Lin, who produced all of the previous LEGO films, and Jonathan Eirich will produce alongside Wilfert on the next LEGO-inspired film.

Producer Dan Lin and his Rideback banner, which made the previous four theatrical films, remains attached to the new movies under the Universal umbrella.

The initial animated entry in the film franchise, 2014’s The LEGO Movie, was a mammoth surprise hit grossing 468.1 million. Unfortunately Warners struggled to recapture lighting in a bottle. In 2017 they released two spinoff films within six months of each other, one the decently-performing The LEGO Batman Movie ($312 million worldwide box office) and poorly received The LEGO Ninjago Movie ($123.1 million worldwide box office). Last year’s The LEGO Movie 2: The Second Part was a big money loser for the studio, making only $191.3 million on a $100 million budget, despite bringing back Chris Pratt and the voice cast of the original hit. Ultimately oversaturation and time hadn’t been kind to the brand.
