Cate Blanchett in talks to join Adam McKay’s Don’t Look Up
According to Collider, Two-time Academy Award winner Cate Blanchett (Blue Jasmine) is currently in negotiations to star opposite Jennifer Lawrence (Hunger Games, Silver Linings Playbook) in Netflix’s forthcoming sci-fi satirical comedy film Don’t Look Up from Adam McKay. The project was originally supposed to start its filming in April but due the ongoing global pandemic, it was delayed to an unknown date.
In addition, Variety reports that Blanchett is also attached to star in Ad Astra filmmaker James Gray’s newest film titled Armageddon Time. Written and directed by Gray, the film will be inspired by the directors’ own experiences as a student at the Kew-Forest School in Queens where Donald Trump was an alumnus.

Don’t Look Up will be written and directed by Adam McKay, who is also set as a producer Hyperobject Industries banner with Kevin Messick. The film will center on two low-level astronomers who have to embark on a media tour to warn mankind of an approaching asteroid that is going to destroy Earth.
McKay has had a successful run in the satire genre over the past few years, earning one Oscar nomination and one win for 2016’s The Big Short and three Oscar noms for 2018’s Vice, including Best Picture.

Blanchett is an award-winning Australian actress who have garnered two Oscar Awards out of 7 nominations and three Golden Globe Awards out of 10 nominations. Her notable film credits include: Elizabeth, The Talented Mr. Ripley, The Lord of the Rings trilogy, The Aviator, Blue Jasmine, Carol, Ocean’s 9 and Thor: Ragnarok. She will next be seen in Guillermo del Toro’s star-studded film adaptation of Nightmare Alley.
