KJ Apa’s I Still Believe gets early VOD release from Lionsgate

Directors Andrew and Jon Erwin’s Jeremy Camp-biopic drama film I Still Believe had its theatrical release last Friday, March 13 and it earned positive reviews from critics and a rating of 98% on Rotten Tomatoes. However, due to the threats of the COVID-19 pandemic, theater chains across the world have closed down, resulting in a poor theatrical performance. Now, Lionsgate and Kingdom Story Company have announced that I Still Believe will be having an early digital release, available for streaming on premium VOD across all platforms beginning next week on Friday, March 27.

“The theatrical experience is core to our business, and exhibitors are our integral partners and allies. With theaters closed nationwide due to these unprecedented events, we want to continue to make I Still Believe available to consumers. We’re enormously proud of the movie that the Erwin Brothers created and are grateful to be able to share it with audiences for their home viewing pleasure.” Lionsgate’s Joe Drake said in a statement.

The Erwin brothers added,“As filmmakers, we are heartbroken that we can’t share I Still Believe on a big screen the way we intended. We make movies because we love movies and we stand firmly behind the nation’s theater chains, from the largest circuits to the smallest mom and pop indies that have been so dramatically affected by these unprecedented closures. But the safety of guests comes first, and we’re proud to have the opportunity to share online a movie whose inspiring message of love, hope and faith is perfect for these uncertain times.”

Their decision is in line with other major studios who have been giving early VOD releases to their new films including: Warner Bros.’ The Way Back and Birds of Prey; Universal’s Trolls World Tour; and Blumhouse’s The Hunt and Invisible Man.

I Still Believe stars Apa (Archie from Riverdale) as Jeremy, a Grammy-nominated singer/songwriter with more than 5 million albums sold. The film is the true-life story of Jeremy’s remarkable journey of love and loss proves there is always hope in the midst of tragedy and that faith tested is the only faith worth sharing.

Joining Apa is country star Shania Twain as Terry Camp, Britt Robertson (Tomorrowland) as Melissa Henning, and Gary Sinise (Criminal Minds: Beyond Borders) as Tom Camp. This marks the second collaboration between Apa and Robertson, who first starred together in 2017’s comedy-drama A Dog’s Journey.

The film will also feature Melissa Roxburgh (Manifest) as Heather Henning,  Abigail Cowen (Chilling Adventures of Sabrina) as Adrienne Camp and Nathan Dean Parsons (Roswell, New Mexico).
