Crossfire film adaptation in the works at Sony Pictures

According to Variety, Sony Pictures is in the process of developing a film adaptation of Crossfire, based on Smilegate Entertainment’s popular first-person shooter video game of the same name. The Crossfire movie will be written by Chuck Hogan.

Crossfire is free-to-play first-person shooter which features two mercenary corporations: the Black List and Global Risk, who are fighting against each other. It was developed by South Korean game developer Smilegate Entertainment, who first launched the video game in 2007 in South Korea and was later release in China and in North America on 2008 and 2009, respectively.

Due to its immense popularity with 1 billion registered players worldwide, it became the most-played game in the world by player count of all time. Nearly 13 years since its launched, the video game has already earned a grossed of $12 billion in lifetime revenue as of 2019.

The Crossfire film will be produced by Fast & Furious producer Neal H. Moritz, who has been developing the project since 2015, through his Original Film banner. Tencent Pictures has also signed on as a producer and co-financier. This film marks the latest collaboration between Moritz and Sony, who have worked together in the blockbuster 21 Jump Street franchise and the upcoming Bloodshot film led by Vin Diesel which is set to premiere in March 13.
