Robert Kirkman has seen a lot of success in the adaptation department thanks to AMC’s The Walking Dead and Cinemax’s Outcast and now one of his properties is making its way to the big screen in the form of his upcoming comic Stealth, which is set to be directed by Lee Daniels (The Butler) and have a home at Universal Pictures, according to Deadline.

Based on the upcoming Skybound and Image comic created by Robert Kirkman and Marc Silvestri, the story follows the titular hero who has waged war on crime in Detroit for decades but has suddenly crossed the line in his fight for justice. The truth behind the hero’s reckless behavior, which is that he’s an older man battling Alzheimer’s, is known only by reporter Tony Barber, his son. The story will see the hero struggling to hang up his costume as he’s no longer the hero the city needs while battling enemies who want to see his retirement.

Daniels, who was nominated for an Oscar for Precious and helmed the well-received historical drama The Butler, is set to produce the project alongside his partner Pam Williams, Kirkman, David Alpert and Bryan, and Sean Furst. The script is set to be penned by Iron Man scribes and The Expanse creators and executive producers Mark Fergus and Hawk Ostby.

In addition to helming Precious and The Butler, Daniels is well-known on the small screen for creating the hit Fox musical drama Empire and Star, the former of which is set to conclude on May 26 with the latter being canceled earlier this year after three seasons.

The first issue of Stealth is set to hit shelves on March 11, 2020, through the Skybound/Image imprint with a story by Mike Costa and art by Nate Bellegarde and Tamra Bonvillain.
