Marvel TV closing down, remaining shows now at Marvel Studios

As various streaming services and networks have begun cutting ties with the comic powerhouse in recent years, Marvel TV is officially closing its doors as its head Jeph Loeb is preparing his departure, and now the remaining shows currently running or in production will become a part of the primary Marvel Studios, according to Deadline.

Due to the shuttering of the division, a large portion of its staff are facing layoffs, with executives Cort Lane, Marsha Griffin, Mark Ambrose, Tom Lieber and Aimee Carlson all being hit by the closure. Some of the group moving to Marvel Studios to oversee the final shows will include SVP of Current Programming and Production Karim Zreik and members of his team.

After Netflix cancelled all six of its series, the final season of Hulu’s Runaways set to debut on Friday and Freeform cancelling lone series Cloak & Dagger, the remaining roster being rolled over to Marvel Studios will include the live-action adaptation of Helstrom, the animated shows M.O.D.O.K.Howard the DuckHit Monkey and Tigra and Dazzler and ABC’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., which is currently renewed through its seventh and final season that will air next year.

“The decision has been made to complete Marvel TV projects that are currently in production, but not continue with any further development,” Marvel’s TV division announced in a statement on Tuesday.

The TV universe for Marvel started off hot, receiving rave reviews from critics and audiences and drawing in strong viewership, but despite major followings for many of the series over the years, popularity has been on a downfall for all of the shows and when it was announced Loeb would be exiting the division at the end of the year, it became clear the path would be rocky and troublesome. Sources are reporting that Loeb will actually stick around during the transition to Marvel Studios.
