Hawkeye Disney+ Series was Initially Planned as a Film

Hawkeye Disney+ series was initially planned as a film

According to Bloomberg, the upcoming (and anticipated) Disney+ Hawkeye TV series was initially planned as a motion picture vehicle for star Jeremy Renner before the decision was made to move the series to the streaming service.

Feige broke the news to Renner during the very same meeting in which he pitched the WandaVision and Loki TV shows to Tom Hiddleston, Elizabeth Olsen and Paul Bettany, who play Wanda Maximoff (aka Scarlett Witch), Vision and Loki in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Feige was initially reluctant to share his TV series idea with Renner, who already had a deal for a standalone film. Surprisingly, the actor dug the idea.

“He totally got it and said, ‘Let’s do it,’” Feige said.

Of course, the project is in a bit of a funk since Renner’s recent troubles, which led star Hailey Steinfeld, who has been in talks for the role of Kate Bishop, to state her uncertainty about the role.

“That’s not something that’s necessarily happening,” the actress said. “We’re going to wait and find out, I guess.”

The Hawkeye limited series will see Jeremy Renner reprising his role as Clint Barton, with the story also set to introduce his protege Kate Bishop. In the comics, Bishop becomes Hawkeye after Clint Barton and is also a member of the Young Avengers. Disney has not yet confirmed if they have plans to give Bishop her own spinoff show or have her appear in the MCU down the road, but it is certainly a possibility. Hawkeye will premiere in Fall 2021 on Disney+.

Disney is developing multiple limited series featuring characters from the Marvel Cinematic Universe, with The Falcon and the Winter SoldierLoki and WandaVision being two of the shows in development. Mackie, Stan, Hiddleston and Elizabeth Olsen will reprise their roles for their respective series.

Disney‘s upcoming streaming service will become the exclusive home in the U.S. for subscription-video-on-demand viewing of the newest live-action and animated series and movies from Disney, Pixar, Star Wars, Marvel and Fox. Set to launch on November 12, the service will be ad-free, supported solely by subscription fees, and will be available on gaming consoles, smart TV’s, and connected streaming devices
