Frozen II Melts the Competition With $127 Million Opening!

As expected, Disney’s sequel Frozen II had a huge debut at the box office with $127 million domestically, which was both an animated film record for November and the highest take for an animated movie outside of summer release. It was also the fifth highest November opening of all-time, beating out 2010’s Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1. By comparison, the original 2013 Frozen took in $67.3 million in its US opening. Frozen II also took in a whopping $223.2 million internationally, for a worldwide debut of $350.2 million.

Sony’s Mister Rogers biopic A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood brought in $13.5 million in 3235 theaters for the #3 slot, on par with industry expectations for the Tom Hanks starrer.

Opening at #4 was the Chadwick Boseman crime thriller 21 Bridges at $9.3 million, below the expectations for the STX film produced by The Russo Brothers.
