The game takes place in 1996 — three years before the 1999 film. It starts when a young boy disappears in the Black Hills Forest near Burkittsville, Maryland. As Ellis, a former police officer with a troubled past, you join the search. What starts as an ordinary investigation soon turns into an endless nightmare as you confront your fears and the Blair Witch, a mysterious force that haunts the woods.

The horror franchise started with 1999’s The Blair Witch Project, which chronicled three aspiring documentarians as they got lost in the woods and evil forces kept creeping in. The following year, Book of Shadows: Blair Witch 2, which was a more conventional film that took a meta look at its predecessor. Then, in 2016, the horror film The Woods was revealed to be another sequel in the franchise, also titled Blair Witch.

The game received mixed-to-positive reviews upon release in August with the praise being centered on its writing, music, atmosphere, and graphics while criticism was centered on its game and level designs, technical issues and pacing problems.

From the creative minds behind the critically acclaimed Layers of Fear, your darkest fears will awake through digital purchase on PlayStation 4 on December 3 and will receive a physical release at a later date.
