Ryan Reynolds responds to Joker beating Deadpool at the box office

Deadpool and Deadpool 2 were the two top R-rated films at the global box office with $783 million and $785 million, respectively. Now Joker has surpassed both films to become the #1 R-rated film of all time, and so far it has grossed $788 million. This is great news for Warner Bros. and DC, and also for fans who appreciate comic book movies going in a different and darker direction.

Today, Ryan Reynolds took to Twitter to congratulate the Joker movie.

“R-Rated box office congratulatory posts aren’t like the ones you’re used to…” Reynolds said. The caption is attached to the key art for Joker with “You Mother F*****” written above the character.

Joker came out strong when it was initially praised by critics, and audiences at the Venice Film Festival gave it an 8-minute standing ovation. Once more reviews came out, it was under fire for its subject matter. Despite some critics blasting the movie for its dark take, it didn’t stop millions of moviegoers from wanting to watch the film.

Josh Brolin and Mark Hamill praised the film, who have both played comic book villains. Then there’s Jared Leto, who portrayed the Joker in Suicide Squad. Reportedly he wasn’t happy about another Joker movie.

Joker Synopsis: Forever alone in a crowd, failed comedian Arthur Fleck seeks connection as he walks the streets of Gotham City. Arthur wears two masks — the one he paints for his day job as a clown, and the guise he projects in a futile attempt to feel like he’s part of the world around him. Isolated, bullied and disregarded by society, Fleck begins a slow descent into madness as he transforms into the criminal mastermind known as the Joker.

Joker is now out in theaters and is directed by Todd Phillips from a script by Phillips and Scott Silver. It stars Joaquin Phoenix, Zazie Beetz, Robert De Niro, Frances Conroy, and Brett Cullen.
