D23 Expo on day one has given us a lot of amazing reveals. If you’re a Star Wars fan, the best news came towards the end of the Disney+ panel. Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy brought on stage Ewan McGregor to announce that he is finally coming back as Obi-Wan Kenobi. Fans around the world have been clamoring for a return of McGregor as Kenobi for the longest time. Now, we’re finally getting it as a Disney+ series.

Needless to say, the “Untitled Obi-Wan Kenobi” project is just one of the many projects that Star Wars fans are waiting for. First, The Mandalorian will be hitting the streaming service on launch day. In addition with Kenobi, Diego Luna will be reprising his role as Cassian Andor in his own untitled series.
We currently don’t know the timeframe of the series but we’re assuming that the series will take place around the same time as Solo: A Star Wars Story. That sliver of time when Obi-Wan is on Tatooine looking over the young Luke Skywalker. Will Darth Maul play a role in the series as he did in Star Wars: Rebels? Only time will tell.
Be that as it may, Lucasfilm did reveal that the episode scripts are complete. In addition, filming will commence next year. Regardless, it’s finally nice to see McGregor return to a role that he’s so passionate about. Previously, he has expressed a ton of interest in reprising the role. At the same time, he also shows up to the Star Wars marathons to introduce one of the prequel films.
The Untitled Obi-Wan Kenobi series will premiere on Disney+ in the near future.
