DC Comics’ The Sandman is getting a Netflix series

The Sandman

DC Comics has announced that Neil Gaiman’s The Sandman will be streamed into people’s homes via Netflix. Neil Gaiman, Allan Heinberg, and David S. Goyer will join the show as executive producers. The Sandman comics were written for a more mature reader and had many successful arcs and stand-alone stories.

The Sandman is about Morpheus, who also goes by the Lord of Dreams and Dream, and his journeys and his interactions with his six other siblings. The comics revolved around Dream trying to correct mistakes he created since he has existed. The show will cover the original 75-issue comic.

Channing Dungey, VP, Original Series, Netflix, had this to say:

“We’re thrilled to partner with the brilliant team that is Neil Gaiman, David S. Goyer and Allan Heinberg to finally bring Neil’s iconic comic book series, The Sandman, to life onscreen…From its rich characters and storylines to its intricately built-out worlds, we’re excited to create an epic original series that dives deep into this multi-layered universe beloved by fans around the world.”

Netflix also has an ongoing series, Lucifer, which has deep ties with Morpheus since the comic book character got its start in The Sandman. Since the Netflix show has strayed far away from the comic, it may be hard to tie it in with The Sandman. But maybe we can expect a small cameo in the show at least we can hope so.
