Cyberpunk 2077’s fictional band, Samurai, releases new song titled ‘Chippin’ In’

Samurai Cyberpunk 2077

Cyberpunk 2077 is an upcoming first-person action RPG from CD Projekt Red (The Witcher 3), and players will get to control their own character named V. In the E3 2019 trailer, it featured Keanu Reeves as Johnny Silverhand addressing the player as Samurai, and V can be seen wearing a jacket with Samurai plastered on the collar and a stylized samurai mask on the back. (CD Projekt Red even handed out the Samurai jackets to a select few at E3 2019.) New information has popped up about Samurai, and it’s a chrome rock band in the world of Cyberpunk 2077. New music from the fictional band has been released titled “Chippin’ In.”

Refused is the sound and voice of Samurai, a fictional band in the world of Cyberpunk 2077. The Swedish punk rock band is writing, recording, and producing an EP for the game, and composer Marcin Przybyłowicz (The Witcher 3) is heading the composing team. Together, the band and the composing team have created music inspired by the original source material while also producing original tracks just for the game.

“I’m incredibly excited about having Refused on board for Cyberpunk 2077,” said Marcin Przybyłowicz, Music Director, CD PROJEKT RED. “I know for a fact there are a lot of fans of the band at the studio, including Piotr Adamczyk, one of the composers working on the game, who came to me with the idea for this collaboration. I’m very happy he did, because the massive riffs, powerful drums, and hard-hitting vocals the guys from Refused deliver as SAMURAI have blown me away,” added Przybyłowicz. “I can wholeheartedly say the punk factor of Cyberpunk 2077’s music is through the roof!”

“Like us, SAMURAI is a group of rebels, albeit in a different time and place,” said Dennis Lyxzén, Lead Vocalist of the band Refused. “Working together with CD PROJEKT RED, writing music and song lyrics for Cyberpunk’s chrome rock icon was fun, but also very different in the creative sense. It was an unexpected challenge that turned out to be right up our alley and really got us going. The songs turned out great and the game looks insane,” added Lyxzén.

Samurai’s “Chippin’ In” was featured at the end of the Cyberpunk 2077 E3 2019 trailer. The song is now available on streaming services and digital stores.

Cyberpunk 2077 is headed to the PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC on April 16, 2019.
