Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order has Saw Gerrera, Wookie and stormtroopers with bad aim

EA Play 2019 is going on today and tomorrow at the Hollywood Palladium in Los Angeles, and the most anticipated game this year is Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order. The game is developed by Respawn Entertainment (Titanfall 2, Apex Legends) and stars Cameron Monaghan as Cal Kestis. He’s one of the last surviving Jedi after Order 66, an order from the Emperor that calls for the purge of the Jedi in the galaxy. A 14-minute gameplay trailer has been released for the game, and it features our hero wielding a lightsaber and battling stormtroopers and other types of enemies.

The game shows off what fans can expect of the gameplay including lightsaber combat, platforming like wall-running, and Force powers. Since the stormtroopers are known for their bad aim against a Jedi, we get to see Cal take them out one by one with ease. The one-hit kill captures the power of the lightsaber, but there will be tougher enemies including an Imperial droid that’s similar to K-2SO from Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. Cal will be able to run on walls and double jump, which is something Respawn is good at with series like Titanfall.

What’s a Jedi without their Force powers. Cal can move platforms to help him cross an area, levitate enemies in the air, and throw a lightsaber and bring it back. Cal is so fast that he’s able to kill a stormtrooper via their own blasters. Just wait for the stormtrooper to shoot at you, then the game will slow down time as you bring them towards you and have the blast kill them from behind.

Fans will be treated with appearances from characters and species in the Star Wars universe like Wookies and Saw Gerrera, played by Forest Whitaker in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. There’s even a joke about the high ground that pays homage to Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith.

The animation can be a bit smoother in terms of movement and combat, but the gameplay video is using alpha game footage.

Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order will be available for the PS4, Xbox One and PC on November 15, 2019.
