The LEGO games have had a certain formula with its quirkiness and silly humor, and the games have featured a dynamic isometric view. Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment and TT Games are changing things up with LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga with improvements for fans of third-person action-adventure games. However, the same type of humor known in the LEGO franchise will still be intact.
During E3 2019, the team behind LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga held a 30-minute demo that showcased new features in the upcoming LEGO game. They wanted to make the Star Wars universe more immersive in the LEGO universe, and it has made a lot of changes to make that happen. The biggest one is the camera position, which is now behind the playable LEGO character that’s typical in a third-person action-adventure game.
The characters and vehicles still have that LEGO look, but the actual world looks more realistic. In the demo, we got to visit Tattooine, and the dirt and the rocky walls looked stunning. If you took the LEGO characters and vehicles out of the game, you would think it’s a triple-A Star Wars game. With the camera angle now behind the character, you really get to appreciate the graphics.
Another change is the over-the-shoulder aiming and shooting, which is similar to games like Uncharted and The Division. With this type of aiming, the game’s transition from behind the camera to over the shoulder is more seamless and engaging, bringing you closer to the action
The game has everything a Star Wars fan can want. You’ll get to explore worlds from all the Skywalker movies including the original trilogy, prequel trilogy, and new trilogy. Yes, that even includes the upcoming Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. You can also choose which movie to play first, so if you’re not a fan of a certain movie, you can skip it. Once you have chosen the movie, you’ll get to start on that journey along with its accompanying planets, whether it’s Dagobah, Geonosis, or Tatooine. Yes, this is going to be the most epic Star Wars game to date.
Playable characters include Luke Skywalker, Rey, BB-8, Obi-Wan Kenobi, Finn, and many more. You can turn to the dark side and play as Darth Vader, Kylo Ren and Emperor Palpatine. You’ll also be able to control vehicles like the Millennium Falcon, X-wings, and a podracer.
The game is developed by TT Games with help from Lucasfilm Games and published by Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment. LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga will be available in 2020 for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch and PC.
