An invite to the Microsoft Press conference this year was priceless for one main thing, but let’s not forgot that there were also 60 other games introduced to compliment this press conference. Ori and the Will of the Wisps caught my eye as a platformer that gets as clean as it gets. From the humongus screen sized bosses to the biolumanescence of the forest, Ori and the Will of the Wisps does not fail to glamour the eyes in this sequel follow-up.
You play as Ori, a glowy, blue guardian spirit. The trailer starts with a spider infestation in the forest and a glowy egg engulfed in webs. Ori, as tiny as he gets, is ambushed by a screen-sized spider. Arachnophobia is alive and well as this spider is sticky, hairy, and monsterous. Ori is able to jump away and avoid some spiderweb fireballs but runs into a giant wolf thereafter. This game loves gigantic animals.
Ori and the Will of the Wisps looks like it will play just like its predessessor, a platformer Metroid-vania. Ori spends most of the trailer running away from gigantic wolves, lava monsters, and water monsters, but Ori does have a few tricks up his sleeve when he turns and bashes a wolf in the head with a lit torch. The short less-than-2-minute trailer ends with Ori flying on the newly hatched owl, which is likely Ku, Kuro’s child.
Ori and the Will of the Wisps will release for PC and Xbox One on February 11, 2020. Check out the trailer below.
