Dying Light 2 will have more dynamic missions

Techland developed a cool take on the zombie video game genre with Dying Light. Imagine what would happen if Mirror’s Edge met the zombie apocalypse. The first-person open world survival horror action game sold 5 million units, and of course, fans are dying for a sequel. Dying Light 2 was announced last year during E3, and this year, Techland had more to show including the release of the E3 2019 trailer. We had the chance to check out the 1-hour hands-off demo, and it looks to continue a solid parkour experience in a zombie-infested world.

The game will have different factions, and as infected survivor Aiden Caldwell, you will be given choices on who to side with. These choices, of course, will have major consequences in regions of The City.

In the demo, we start off in a packed bar with a singer on stage performing Metric’s “Help I’m Alive,” a very fitting song for a survival horror game. This scene helps set up the world of The City, and I always like moments to relax in a cool scenery before the action starts.

Aiden is tasked with chasing after a vehicle. The name of the game is parkour, and your character has to traverse the city to catch up to the target. It’s an exhilarating experience as you run through hard-to-reach areas while evading the infected in your way. This shows off the dynamic mission where anything can happen.

Afterwards, we were shown a mission to infiltrate a fortified town, and the game allows you to figure out how to do it. In our demo, the character decided to keep an enemy alive in order to bypass the town’s front gate security. The plan works as the gate opens thanks to the secret entrance password. The mission is to meet the leader and assassinate him. Your plan is ruined since the guy who helped you set off the alarm.

The enemies are now on alert, so you’ll need to fight your way to the leader. His henchmen come in different sizes, and you’ll need to be handy with your melee weapons to take them all down.

At the end of the demo, it turns out that the person who gave you your mission wasn’t entirely honest, and the leader was actually telling the truth. You’ll be given a choice of taking him out or letting him live, and your choice here will affect the area.

Co-op is back, and you can play up to 4 players total. Yes, that means the whole campaign can be done with friends.

The game’s score is composed by Olivier Deriviere (A Plague Tale: Innocence, Vampyr, Remember Me, Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag – Freedom Cry). The game is powered by the C-Engine, Techland’s in-house technology.

Dying Light 2 will be released in Spring 2020 on PS4, Xbox, and PC.
