Constance Wu lands lead role in Universal’s Goodbye, Vitamin
According to Variety, Golden Globe-nominated actress Constance Wu (Crazy Rich Asians) has been tapped for the lead role in Universal Pictures’ forthcoming film adaptation of Goodbye, Vitamin, based on author Rachel Khong’s comedy-drama novel of the same name.
Goodbye, Vitamin centers on a 30-year old woman named Ruth Young, who returns home after finding out about her father’s Alzheimer’s. The novel’s official synopsis reads: Freshly disengaged from her fiancé and feeling that life has not turned out quite the way she planned, Ruth quits her job, leaves town and arrives at her parents’ home to find that situation more complicated than she’d realized. Her father, a prominent history professor, is losing his memory and is only erratically lucid. Ruth’s mother, meanwhile, is lucidly erratic. But as Ruth’s father’s condition intensifies, the comedy in her situation takes hold, gently transforming her all her grief.

The film will be produced by Dylan Clark through his Dylan Clark Productions with Wu also set to serve as an executive producer. Jennifer Yee McDevitt will pen the upcoming movie’s screenplay. Brian Williams of Dylan Clark Productions and Universal’s director of development Lexi Barta will be overseeing the project.
Goodbye, Vitamin was Khong’s debut novel which was published last July 2017. It had earned many praises from many news outlets including Vogue, Esquire, Buzzfeed and has also received the title of Best Book of the Year from NPR.

Wu had recently gained recognition for her role as Rachel Chu in the blockbuster film Crazy Rich Asians starring alongside Henry Golding and Michelle Yeoh. She is also best known for starring in ABC’s comedy sitcom Fresh Off the Boat. Wu will next be seen in the upcoming crime comedy titled Hustlers opposite Jennifer Lopez, Cardi B, Keke Palmer, Julia Stiles and Lili Reinhart.
