Disney and Marvel Studios aren’t afraid to release a lot of films from the Marvel Cinematic Universe with two Marvel films releasing in 2019 and two in 2020. (Spider-Man: Far From Home is from Sony and Marvel Studios.) And why should they? The films have been making them lots of money. With Lucasfilm, it’s a different story ever since the box office disappointment of Solo: A Star Wars Story. The company has decided to slow down on the production after the release of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker later this year. However, Disney has announced the release dates for the next chapter of Star Wars.
Star Wars fans should be excited about the next phase of the franchise with three untitled Star Wars films on December 16, 2022; December 20, 2024; and December 18, 2026.
Is it really Star Wars fatigue that’s causing the box office disappointments for Lucasfilm? Perhaps it’s the mixed reactions from Star Wars: The Last Jedi that has caused people to lose faith? What Marvel Studios has shown is that people will come out in droves as long as the studio delivers exciting and entertaining products. We’ll find out if that’s the case once Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker hits theaters on December 20, 2019.
Star Wars: The Last Jedi director Rian Johnson and Game of Thrones’ David Benioff and D.B. Weiss are working on their own Star Wars projects. It’s rumored that the latter two are working on a story that may be set during The Old Republic.
