Sylvester Stallone remaking The Gangster, The Cop, The Devil

The South Korean crime drama The Gangster, The Cop, The Devil is getting a Hollywood remake. The Hollywood Reporter has word that Sylvester Stallone’s Balboa Productions will helm the English-language remake. Don Lee (aka Dong-seok Ma), who played the gangster in the original film, will reprise his role in the upcoming remake.

Lee plays a gangster who, after surviving a vicious attack from a serial killer, forms an unlikely partnership with a cop (Lee Mu-yeol) to help track down his attempted murderer (Kim Seong-gyu).

Stallone will produce alongside Balboa Productions co-founder Braden Aftergood (Wind River), Jang Won-seok, CEO of BA Entertainment, along with Lee.

The original The Gangster, The Cop, The Devil was directed by Lee Won-tae while being filmed last year in South Korea. It will premiere at the Cannes Film Festival before it opens nationwide in South Korean cinemas May 15. It will then open in Singapore on May 23, with other countries to follow. It has also been pre-sold to 104 territories including the U.S., Canada, Australia, China, France, Germany and India, though no other release dates have been announced yet.

Stallone is currently helming yet another John Rambo film, this one titled Rambo 5: Last Blood, which is due in theaters this September. He’s also developing a period cop drama with History titled The Tenderloin.
