POLL RESULTS: Can Another Actor Be Indiana Jones After Harrison Ford?

After four movies and one TV show appearance the actor who has defined the role of Indiana Jones for nearly four decades is Harrison Ford. Can another actor be Indiana Jones after Harrison Ford?

YES! Another actor could bring a whole new dimension to Indy! (55%, 1734 votes)

NO. There’s only one Indiana Jones, and his name is Harrison Ford. (45%, 1424 votes)

Although a solid majority said they DID think another actor could replace Harrison Ford, this was a fairly divisive poll. It seems there’s a fair number of people who are not interested in someone else usurping the role.

What actor COULD replace Harrison Ford as Indiana Jones?

In terms of a viable replacement, the big winner  with 1198 votes turned out to be perennial favorite Chris Pratt, who has been rumored for the role ever since he broke out in the middle of the decade with the double whammy of Guardians of the Galaxy and Jurassic World. While it may seem obvious to cast Pratt since he’s such a big franchise actor, keep in mind Harrison Ford has bounced through many franchises in his five-decade career, including Indiana Jones, Star Wars, Blade Runner and Jack Ryan.

Coming in second with 984 votes is our cover boy and Pratt’s fellow Guardians co-star Bradley Cooper, who is hot off the recent massive success of A Star is Born. Although Cooper has voiced Rocket in the MCU and had his own franchise in the form of The Hangover trilogy, his only big summer action tentpole credential is 2010’s overlooked The A-Team movie. One thing Cooper could definitely nail that many other A-list hunks couldn’t is the more intellectual “Professor Jones” side of the character, which a lot of fans overlook when evaluating a potential Indy.

All the other choices scored terribly, between 13 and 200 votes apiece. The worst were Fantastic Four‘s Miles Teller and Spielberg’s Ready Player One star Tye Sheridan, who tied with a lousy 13 votes each. Shia LaBeouf, who played Henry Jones III in Crystal Skull to much derision, could only muster 137 votes, while Ford’s Solo replacement Alden Ehrenreich did even worse with 103 votes.

Here are the full results…

Chris Pratt (37%, 1198 votes)

Bradley Cooper (31%, 984 votes)

Chris Pine (6%, 202 votes)

Chris Evans (5%, 150 votes)

Shia LaBeouf (4%, 137 votes)

Ryan Gosling (4%, 136 votes)

Alden Ehrenreich (3%, 106 votes)

Liam Hemsworth (2%, 69 votes)

Dan Stevens (2%, 54 votes)

Joseph Gordon-Levitt (2%, 50 votes)

Ansel Elgort (1%, 47 votes)

Aaron Taylor-Johnson (1%, 23 votes)

Jack Reynor (1%, 21 votes)

Tye Sheridan (0%, 13 votes)

Miles Teller (0%, 13 votes)

The last official word on the project was that Solo: A Star Wars Story‘s Jonathan Kasdan would take over scripting duties on Indiana Jones 5, replacing Spielberg mainstay David Koepp (Jurassic Park, The Lost World, War of the WorldsIndiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull). However, recent rumors point to Dan Fogelman having replaced Kasdan and starting a whole new script. The sequel will see Spielberg teaming up once again with Harrison Ford, who is reprising his iconic role, as well as franchise producers Kathleen Kennedy and Frank Marshall.

Famed archaeologist and explorer Indiana Jones was introduced in 1981’s Raiders of the Lost Ark – one of AFI’s 100 Greatest American Films of All Time – and later thrilled audiences in 1984’s Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom, 1989’s Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, and 2008’s Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. The four films have brought in nearly $2 billion at the global box office.

Spielberg previously promised one big thing for the fifth installment, while Bob Iger — Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Lucasfilm’s parent company Disney — has said that Indiana Jones 5 won’t be the last film.

Indiana Jones 5 is currently scheduled to open on July 9, 2021.
