Legends of Tomorrow season 4 finale recap

The Legends of Tomorrow Season 4 finale sees the Legends scrambling to stop Neron from unleashing Hell on earth. Tabitha forces Charlie to shapeshift into a senator. When Neron speaks to a senate subcommittee on the monster appearances, Tabitha forces Charlie-as-senator to transform into an octopus-like monster and attack the senate. Neron reiterates that monsters can be anyone, anywhere, and that all people should download his Eyes app so the Bureau can capture those monsters.

At a park in D.C., Nate and Zari search for 9 year old Zari in order to get the dragon egg back. They find young Zari entertaining a bunch of kinds who formerly bullied her by making the hatched dragon dance. A mother sees the dragon and uses the app to contact the Bureau. Agents teleport in and snatch the dragon.

In Hell

Legends of Tomorrow Season 4 Episode 16 Recap

Nora finds Constantine and rescues him from his torturer in Hell. In order to save Ray, they need to recover his soul coin, which resides in Neron’s vault. Constantine taps Astra to help them access the vault, where they take Ray’s coin with them. Astra pockets a handful of additional coins before leaving the vault.

Fear Itself

Legends of Tomorrow Season 4 Episode 16 Recap

With Charlie rescued and Constantine and Nora back, the team compares notes. Neron isn’t looking to collect souls so he can take over Hell, as suspected. He is using fear as a power source to open a portal to Hell and allow its denizens to come through, making the earth Neron and Tabitha’s hellish kingdom. In order to counter the fear, people need to realize that magical creatures are nothing to fear. Aboard the Waverider, the creatures grow cramped and restless.

Heyworld

Legends of Tomorrow Season 4 Episode 16 Recap

Using Brigid’s diary, Nate creates Heyworld as a park where people can interact with magical creatures and not fear them. Gideon warns Zari that if this plan works, then her family will be saved, with the result being that Zari will have never taken her brother’s totem nor joined the Legends. As long as Zari stays aboard the Waverider in the temporal zone, she should be safe from the timeline altering effects.

In order to get people to attend Heyworld’s opening, the team poses as Supergirl, Green Arrow, and The Flash, using their personas to draw a crowd. The team pulls a bait-and-switch, hoping to show the crowd that the creatures are nothing to fear. That’s when Tabitha and Neron unleash the fully grown dragon to terrorize the crowd. Their fear powers Tabitha’s staff, allowing Neron to open a portal to Hell.

Young Zari stands up to the dragon, ordering it to dance, which takes out Tabitha and returns the dragon to its smaller size. Knowing that his death will render Neron’s deal with Ray null and void, Nate is charmed to look like Constantine. Neron lashes out at Nate-as-Constantine, killing Nate. That forces Neron from Ray’s body, allowing Ray’s soul to return and Constantine to kill Neron.

Zari exits the Waverider and cradles Nate’s body. In the rafters, Nate’s soul sits and watches the scene below alongside Hank’s soul. The two are at peace with one another, but Hank says there’s one thing missing from the superhero show below. Hank sings, possessing Mick. The Legends and all gathered take up the song, using their love as a power source to resurrect Nate. Nate wakes and hugs Zari, who turns into her brother, the effects of the timeline change taking hold. The team forgets Zari and the past two years she spent on the team.

In Hell, Astra cashes in the soul coins of some of history’s most notorious villains, including Genghis Khan, Caligula, John Wayne Gacy, Charles Manson, Gregor Rasputin, Lizzie Borden, Mary Tudor, Joseph Stalin, and more.
