Summer is quickly approaching, and that means some will be enjoying the spoils of summer vacation while the others spend their days binging their favorite shows. For those that decide to enjoy the latter, anime streaming giant Crunchyroll has announced its first summer simulcast series with Dr. Stone, based on the Shonen Jump smash hit series.
Dr. Stone, which is based on the hit weekly Shonen Jump manga of the same name, is written by Riichiro Inagaki and is illustrated by Boichi. The series will be animated by TMS Studios. Picking up a few thousand years after a cataclysmic event that ended up petrifying the world’s population, Dr. Stone tells the story of science versus might in the quest to rebuild Earth’s civilization.
The series will revolve around two main characters named Senku Ishigami and Taiju Oki, in which both were able to free themselves from stone. Yusuke Kobayashi will voice the character Senku Ishigami. His previous work has included voicing Subaru Natsuki in Re:Zero – Starting Life in Another World. Voicing the character Taiju Oki will be Makoto Furukawa, who we’ve previously heard as the voice of Saitama in the popular One Punch Man series. Kana Ichinose (Ichigo in DARLING in the FRANXX) will voice Yuzuriha Ogawa, and Yuuichi Nakamura (Bruno Bucciarati in JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: Golden Wind) will voice Tsukasa Shishiou
The Dr. Stone manga has been a worldwide smash hit with almost two million volumes sold since July 2017 in Japan alone. The series will depict around two million years of scientific history that will range from the Stone Age to the present day. This unprecedented crafting adventure will soon begin.
