Avengers: Endgame beats Titanic’s global box office numbers and has its sights on Avatar

Avengers: Endgame

James Cameron had the top two highest-grossing film of all time at the worldwide box office with Titanic and Avatar. With Avengers: Endgame on its second weekend, Titanic finally gets bumped down to #3. The Marvel Studios film has earned $2 billion in just 12 days and over $619 million domestically.

Avengers: Endgame has earned an estimated $145.8 million for its second weekend at the domestic box office. Actual numbers could be higher once tomorrow hits, and it could top Star Wars: The Force Awakens‘ second-weekend numbers of $149.2 million. The film is now ranked ninth for all-time domestic box office gross behind Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Avatar, Black Panther, Avengers: Infinity War, Titanic, Jurassic World, The Avengers and Star Wars: The Last Jedi.

By beating Titanic‘s global box office numbers of all time, Avengers: Endgame also surpassed Star Wars: The Force Awakens and Avengers: Infinity War. It’s earned $2.188 billion so far and will need to make more than $600 million to beat Avatar’s $2.788 billion. At this rate, it’s looking like it can do just that. Avatar took 47 days to reach $2 billion, and it also helped that the Fox film had a re-release.

The rest of the top five films for the Cinco de Mayo weekend are The Intruder, Long Shot, Uglydolls and Captain Marvel.

Synopsis: The grave course of events set in motion by Thanos that wiped out half the universe and fractured the Avengers ranks compels the remaining Avengers to take one final stand in Marvel Studios’ grand conclusion to twenty-two films, “Avengers: Endgame.”

The film is directed by Anthony and Joe Russo from the screenplay by Christopher Markus & Stephen McFeely. It stars Robert Downey Jr as Iron Man, Chris Evans as Captain America, Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Scarlet Johansson as Black Widow, Mark Ruffalo as Hulk, Jeremy Renner as Hawkeye, Don Cheadle as War Machine, Karen Gillan as Nebula, Benedict Wong as Wong, and Tessa Thompson as Valkyrie.
