Disney has just dropped the new trailer for the “live-action” version of The Lion King, and this time fans get to see a bit more of the upcoming film with different characters including Simba, Scar, Mufasa, Rafiki, Timon, Pumbaa, Nala and more. Director Jon Favreau has taken the same approach with The Jungle Book by bringing an animated film filled with animals to life on the big screen.
The trailer is out and we also hear the epic score from composer Hans Zimmer. Since the film is trying to make the animals look realistic, it does look like a Disneynature film. Of course, the downside of making them look very realistic is that the animals are less emotive compared to their animated counterpart.
It’s great to hear James Earl Jones voice Mufasa again. As for Jeremy Irons, his voice is recognizable as the menacing and evil Scar, so we’ll definitely have to get used to Chiwetel Ejiofor as the new Scar. To add icing on the cake, the trailer ends with Timon and Pumbaa singing “The Lion Sleeps Tonight”.
Disney’s The Lion King journeys to the African savanna where a future king is born. Simba idolizes his father, King Mufasa, and takes to heart his own royal destiny. But not everyone in the kingdom celebrates the new cub’s arrival. Scar, Mufasa’s brother—and former heir to the throne—has plans of his own. The battle for Pride Rock is ravaged with betrayal, tragedy and drama, ultimately resulting in Simba’s exile. With help from a curious pair of newfound friends, Simba will have to figure out how to grow up and take back what is rightfully his.
The film is directed by Jon Favreau (Iron Man, The Jungle Book) and features the voices of Donald Glover as Simba, Beyoncé Knowles-Carter as Nala, James Earl Jones as Mufasa, Chiwetel Ejiofor as Scar, Seth Rogen as Pumbaa and Billy Eichner as Timon.
Disney’s The Lion King roars into theaters on July 19, 2019.
