Curse of La Llorona Scares Up $26.5 Million at Domestic Box Office

New Line Cinema’s The Curse of La Llorona managed to debut at #1 over the Easter weekend, bringing in an estimated $26.5 million. Internationally the film brought in another $30 million, giving it a worldwide debut of $56.5 million. Produced on a budget of $9 million, the horror film is already in the green for the studio.

WB took the #2 spot at the box office as well with Shazam!. The latest chapter in the DCEU brought in $17.34 million domestically for a US total of $121.3 million. Internationally the film brought in another $22 million for an international total of $201.5 million and a global worldwide total of $322.8 million. The film is still sitting below its fellow DCEU movies, but that’s not strictly speaking a bad thing as Shazam! was produced on a lower budget level from the likes of Justice League and Aquaman.

20th Century Fox’s Breakthrough debuted at #3 at the domestic box office, bringing in $11.1 million. The faith-based drama stands at $14.61 million since its debut last Wednesday.

Marvel Studios and Walt Disney Pictures’ Captain Marvel managed to go up, flying to fourth place from sixth place last week, adding another $9.1 million, crossing the $400 million mark at the US box office. Internationally the film brought in $6.5 million, giving it an international total of $689.5 million and a global total of $1.09 billion. The film is remains the 7th highest grossing movie in the MCU worldwide.

Universal Pictures’ Little fell to fifth place bringing in $8.45 million for a US total of $29.38 million. The new film stars Regina Hall, Issa Rae, and Marsai Martin, it’s directed by Tina Gordon (Drumline).

Elsewhere at the box office

Dumbo crossed the $300 million mark at the global box office.

Hellboy fell from third to tenth place with $3.8 million, with a US total of $19.6 million.
